Club Championship

"In order to win you must play your best golf when you need it most,

and play your sloppy stuff when you can afford it.

I shall not attempt to explain how you achieve this happy timing."

- Bobby Jones

SSBGC Championship Qualification Rules and Rules of Play

Qualification to participate:

1. Must be a member in good standing of the SSBGC with an official GHIN Handicap and 50 years of age or older.

2. The basis to qualify for the championship is determined by the number of points a member accrues throughout the Championship year (usually May-April). Points are accrued in the following ways:

    a) if you play in a tournament you receive 10 points.

    b) if you place in a tournament you receive the following additional points:

        5 points - 1st Place

        3 points - 2nd place

         1 point - 3rd place

3. The top 32 members with the most points qualify to play for the championship. If there is a tie between members for the 32nd spot the place will go to the member who has been in the club for the longest period of time. If for some reason a qualifying member decides not to participate we will continue down the list with #33, #34, etc. until we have 32 participants. Once we have the 32 qualifiers we will separate them into two flights of 16 each. The 16 lowest handicapped members will battle it out in the Champions Flight and the next 16 lowest handicaps will battle it out in the Masters Flight.

FAQ

1) Why aren't just the 32 best golfers or lowest handicapped golfers in the club also in the championship?"

A) Our club rewards players for both participating in regular monthly tournaments as well as how they finish in those tournaments. We are a club that promotes community through golf, so golfers that participate in more tournaments are afforded and awarded the opportunity to participate in the championship.

General Rules of Play:

1. The format for the Championship is the sum of each participant's Individual Low-Net scores over the four monthly club tournament rounds that are determined by the Club Championship Committee. The rounds are to be played per USGA Rules, except as superseded by printed Local Golf Course or Special SSBGC Tournament Rules.

2. Rounds will be played in the NET format. This means each golfer's gross score is adjusted after each completed round according to the handicap they played to for that particular round. Then the net scores over those four rounds will be added together and the member with the lowest four round net total will be crowned champion.

3. In the event of a tie, both players will be awarded the Championship but based on the following criteria one will be determined the representative of the SSBGC at the SCGA Tournament of Champions:

a.)  1st Tie-breaker:  Player with the lowest last round net score wins.

b.)  2nd Tie-breaker:  Player with lowest last round "back nine" net score wins.

c.)  3rd Tie-breaker:  Player with the most net pars or better in the round.

         d.) Coin -flip
