Executive Board Meeting Minutes

December 18th

Meeting called to order at 12:34

In attendance Ray Sandoval, Kevin Finney, Greg Gomez, Chris Bunn, and Ed Orneals. Greg Roberts was in attendance for last meeting.

1. Discuss Old Business.

**** Have ball markers that we need to give out

Old business was approved. Will give ball markers out at next shotgun tournament at California CC in April

New Business

2. Discuss suggestions brought up at the November General Membership Meeting

a. Allow the lowest flight to play from the senior tees or allow whoever wants to play from the senior tees play from the senior tees as their handicap will be affected accordingly.

b. Make the Circle Hole the shortest par 3 on the golf course as to allow all players to have a chance to compete.

3. Change the circle hole to 3 feet or closer if we move it.

We will not have a separate flight for players who would like to hit from the Senior tees and that will not be an option unless a particular format requires it like the Dec 2020 tournament at Lakewood. We did agree to try and incorporate more team events. Greg Gomez suggested 4 man scrambles.

The circle hole will be the shortest par 3 on the course but will now be won if the tee shot finishes 3 feet or less from the whole instead of 6 feet or less.

4. Rules Violations

We decided to emphasize to the club making sure the rules of golf are followed by:

1) Ray will make a reminder before each tournament

2) Ed Ornelas will send an email to club members emphasizing certain rules and situations.

3) We will promote the see something say something

4) We will promote to members that before you do anything that requires you to move your ball ask your group for a ruling before you do it. If there is any disagreement on how to proceed then play the 2-ball rule to finish the hole and discuss with Ed Ornelas.

5) Scores will be double-checked when cards are turned in to the tournament committee.

5. Tournament Schedule was approved for tournaments up to May. Jan – Rec Park, Feb – El dorado, March – Meadowlark, April – California CC, May – Goose Creek, Jim Detoskey 1st 2 rounds at Desert Willow Firecliff, and Mountain Course.

6) Treasurer Report - $2900 in checking account . Balance is a little lower than normal due to the fact the club has been supplementing green fees and paying for range balls when they are an extra cost at tournaments.

b. Executive Board decided that the membership fee starting on Jan 1st 2022 would be $75. The reason why this will increase is that $5 will automatically be assessed to the hole in one fund. The remaining $14 increase is because of the increase in fees the club has been supplementing for green fees and range balls.

7) Member Incidents - Dave Schagrin will be asked to not keep score for his groups for the immediate future due to the fact there are too many incidents of incorrect scoring on the cards he keeps score on.

Kevin Finney will contact Dave S. about this.

8) Member Reports and New Business –

Going forward all Scorecards will be double-checked when turned in. Chris, Ed, and Greg will check cards together hole by hole to make sure each score on the holes match and not just totals. Once that is done and we have cards in Greg will move over with Kevin and record on big sheet as Chris and Ed continue to double-check the cards. This is being done because some hole-by-hole scores that are used to determine the skins do not match up. It seems some scorekeepers are just writing totals and not adding up scores. Thus the totals are the same but some scores by hole are different. Thus causing a discrepancy in what someone really made on a hole and possibly effecting who actually won a skin or the number of skins won in a flight.

Meeting Adjourned at 1:38

New Business

1. Discussed the members that were assessed a handicap violation for not posting scores. They’re old handicap and new handicap were discussed and also the amount of times per month they were now posting. All players have gone up in the amount of scores posting. And in turn all their handicaps have gone down.

2. Discussed members who are not playing more than once per week. Discussed why Jerry Pangelinan and Robert Lorenzi are not posting. Two members were not aware of having to post on 9 hole scores. Tom Eggleston has not been posting either.

E-mailed everyone the importance to post scores and also e-mailed them separately to remind them to post scores

3. Membership update Phil Gerrity and Mike Adrid passed way. Armando Alvarado left the club. New members Ted Valdez, Brad Boll, Brad Angle, George Molinar, George Sapien, Gus Merkson and George O’Brien.

4. Voted to recognize members with 10 years of loyalty or more a personalized SSBGC ball marker.

5. Balance in checking account is $8,900 with $6,200 outstanding still from Solvang. We have been  paying out of pocket for range balls instead of charging members and taking $5 for each member at higher priced courses. We have asked golf courses to keep a count of how many people use range balls and only pay for the guys who actually hit range balls at tournaments. Paid for drinks at August and September that totaled $319.00

6. Discuss Rules Violation at Western Hills. Group teed off on the wrong tee box. Argument ensued when the group behind them told them they teed off on wrong tee box. We decided to address this but decided to have Ed Ornelas to ask them their side of the story. Look up rule about teeing off from wrong tee box. Members need to handle disagreement of rules.

7. Tournament Schedule – December is Lakewood.  Decided on Tentatively January at San Juan Hills, penned in at El Dorado in February, Tentatively March Meadowlark, April Brookside, May Goose Creek. Decided that we will not return to Shandin Hills. Candlewood CC is possibility. Sierra Lakes, Tierra Rejada, and Rustic Canyon also a possibility. Put possibility of carpooling  for long distance tournaments.

8. Discussion on raising wagers. Decided to add two $5 prop bets of net par on all par 5’s and par 3’s.

9. Decided on making the Jim Detoskey Memorial in Palm Springs and only setting up golf.

10. All board members are back except Greg Roberts.  Asked Chris Bunn to run.

11. Discussion about playing different tees and decided that it is not a huge difference.

12. Discussion about players not keeping right scores. Decided to send suggestions to all club members on how to keep score properly and still keep the group moving.

13.  Solvang looking at around 40 guys.

14. Phone app to players

15. A couple of groups are too far behind. Need to remind them to keep up or send letters.

16. Discussed Rule about taking Provisional. Must declare on tee. Send an email about taking a provisional or strokes and distance.
